Anchors Aweigh, Part Deux

I am in! Ladies and gentlemen: I am in!

It has been three weeks since I went to the recruiter and told him that I was interested in joining the Navy Reserve. The only real delay was this past week, trying to get two pieces of paper showing that I was indeed divorced 14 years ago.

Today was hurry up and wait. The hold up was as a result of two tattoos I have on my body. I had to sign the form indicating that both of them were non-offensive.

I finally got to sit down with the job counselor after about 4 hours. The real learning experience for me in all of this is that I need to exercise patience. One thing that the recruiter commented on today was my patience through all of this.

I have been researching what field I would like to go into when I enter. The funny thing was that the job description for my chosen field was about 3 pages down from the top of the job counselor’s paperwork. I saw Hospital Corpsman at the top of the page and simply smiled to myself. I immediately informed him that this was the field I was interested in. We then went over the details of basic training and schooling for my field. I will be spending the rest of the year in Great Lakes, IL. The ironic thing about that is that was where I was born. Full circle…

I am shipping out in exactly three weeks. I coming to the conclusion that things happened in threes for this experience. Three weeks since the recruiter, three times that I was at the processing center, and three weeks until I ship off.

I am ready to write that next chapter in my life. Stay tuned…
